Responsibilities

The Planning Commission plays the primary role in the sustainability of the City’s comprehensive plan. Through the application of the City’s guiding principles, the commission should think of the City in terms of available assets, project feasibility, and appropriate avenues to achieve goals. Identifying assets and/or any unforeseen challenges to a specific area, the plan or direction for that area should be modified to fit a feasible model.

Per Article XIV of the City Charter:

  • Create and maintain a Master Plan
  • Review subdivision plats within City and ETJ
  • Recommend Capital Improvement Projects
  • Consult with department heads concerning planning

Qualifications for membership:

A majority of the planning commission members shall reside in the city limits. Members of the commission should possess the following characteristics:

  • Experienced in land management/development;
  • Knowledge of the social and economic attributes of the city; and
  • Positive, creative, forward thinkers with a basis for action.
