Tropical Storm Beryl Update No. 3

Status and Expected Conditions:

  • As of 11am, Matagorda County remains under a Hurricane Warning.  
  • The track forecast has continued to show landfall to occur near Matagorda Bay as Category 1.
  • Beryl is moving at approximately 10mph.  
  • Coastal areas should expect a 4-6’’ storm surge and hurricane force winds.
  • Inland areas could experience 5-10” and up to 15” of rain leading to localized flooding, along with hurricane force winds. Flood watch remains in effect.
  • The Matagorda County Judge has signed a disaster declaration.

Preparations:

  • The city continues to actively monitor and prepare for the storm.
  • Public work crews are out doing final checks of drainage and inlets.
  • Bay City Regional Airport is closed to the public beginning at 3pm today.
  • Crews are on standby for post-recovery cleanup.
  • Bay City PD will be patrolling throughout the storm until unsafe to do so.
  • City facilities will be closed on Monday, July 8, 2024 with exception of essential personnel.
  • GFL has suspended services for Monday, July 8, 2024.
  • Riverside Park will close at noon.

What can you do?

  • If you haven’t already, prepare your property for hurricane force winds. This includes securing your GFL toter, patio furniture, and outdoor decorations.
  • Listen closely for instructions from officials.
  • Prep your emergency kit and make sure it is accessible.
  • Power outages are possible. Prepare to have backup sources of power and light. Remember to not use generators indoors.
  • Take photos of your property now in the event the storm causes damage.
