Driving Safety Course

If you are charged with an offense under the Transportation Code, you may be eligible to complete a Driving Safety Course. Please be advised that you may not complete a Driving Safety Course to have your citation dismissed until you have been granted permission from the court.

Eligibility

  1. You must be at least 25 years of age.
  2. You must have a valid Texas Driver's License.
  3. You are required to present proof of financial responsibility as required by Chapter 601, Transportation Code.
  4. You cannot have taken a Driving Safety Course within the last 12 months.
  5. You will be required to pay the court costs of $144 or $169 if the offense occurred in school zone.

If you possess a Commercial Driver's License, you are NOT eligible to take a Driving Safety Course.

Compliance

Submit the signed "Court Copy" Driving Safety Certificate for a TDLR Approved Course to our office on or before the due date you were given by the court.

Failure to Comply

If you fail to comply with any of the requirements of the Driving Safety Course, your case will be set for a show cause hearing and a notice will be mailed to the last known address on court records.

If you fail to appear for your hearing, a judgment will be entered. You will have 10 days from the judgment date to file a motion for a new trial. If a motion for a new trial is not filed with the court within the required time period, the judgment will be final and result in conviction.
